Indirect Coomb´s test can detect haemolytic anaemia, other auto-immune disorders, erythroblastosis fetalis, infections like mono and syphilis and certain types of cancer.
What does Indirect Coomb´s test for?
Indirect Coomb´s test is done to detect if you have any antibodies that can destroy the red blood cells, or your baby is at a risk of developing anaemia and jaundice at birth.
What happens if Indirect Coomb´s test is positive?
A positive indirect coomb´s test in pregnancy means you or your baby are a high risk of developing severe anaemia by destroying the red blood cells. If before a transfusion, then it means extra care should be taken to prevent red cell destruction.
